In a significant development for the Ethereum blockchain, the highly anticipated Pectra upgrade has been rescheduled to May 7, 2025. This comes after a recent announcement by the CORE developers, detailing the merge of the Prague execution layer with the Electra consensus layer and the inclusion of 11 EIPs aimed at boosting scalability, efficiency, and overall performance.

Ethereum Sets New Date for Pectra Upgrade

Ethereum’s Pectra upgrade, originally planned for March 2025, has been rescheduled to go live on the mainnet on May 7, 2025. The announcement was made during a call held by the blockchain’s CORE developers on April 3. Pectra is one of Ethereum’s most significant upgrades since the transition to proof-of-stake in 2022, merging the Prague execution layer with the Electra consensus layer and including 11 EIPs aimed at improving scalability, efficiency, and usability. The changes were postponed due to technical challenges encountered during testnet implementation, specifically finality issues on the Holesky testnet and a minor bug.

However, data from IntoTheBlock shows that Ethereum whales are buying the dip, with the largest ETH wallets adding over 130,000 ETH to their holdings in a single day. This suggests confidence from long-term players even as retail sentiment wavers.
